About Huilong Shiju
Huilong Shiju is an existing Qing Dynasty Hakka enclosed house in Xinheng Village, Jinsha Community, Kengzi Street, Pingshan District, Shenzhen. It was built by the Huang family in the 28th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1902). This building is the core component of the Kengzi Hakka enclosure group. It was listed as a municipal cultural relic protection unit in 2018. However, due to its age and disrepair, it suffered from roof leakage, wall collapse and other damages. It was burned down when the Japanese invaded in 1938, and was locally known as "Huoshaowei". After becoming a municipal cultural protection unit in 2018, partial renovations have been started. Its half-moon pool, turrets and other elements reflect the integration of Hakka dwellings and the natural environment. Part of the eight-acre farming layout of the moon pool has been preserved to this day.
