About Site of the "Quell the British" Corps at Sanyuanli
Sanyuanli Pingyingtuan Site is located in the Sanyuan Ancient Temple to the north of Sanyuanli Village in the northern suburbs of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. This site is the place where the people of Sanyuanli took the oath to fight against the British in the 21st year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1841). The Sanyuan Ancient Temple was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty and was burned down by the British and French invading forces during the Second Opium War. The current site was rebuilt by the people of Sanyuanli Village in the 10th year of Xianfeng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1860). Later generations called it the former site of Pingying Tuan. In May of the 21st year of Daoguang's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1841), the British army occupied the forts in the north of Guangzhou and used the Sifang Fort as their headquarters to harass them everywhere.
