About Tank Shanghai
Shanghai Oil Tank Art Center was established in March 2019 and is located at No. 2381 Longteng Avenue, Xuhui District. It was formerly the Longhua Airport oil storage tank area that was decommissioned in 1966. It was founded by collector Qiao Zhibing. In 2025, it was selected as ninth on the list of "25 Best Museum Buildings in a Century" by the international authoritative art media "ARTnews". The institution transformed five abandoned aviation oil tanks to form an art ecological space integrating exhibition space, performance venues and public landscapes. It covers an area of about 60,000 square meters and was designed and transformed by OPEN Architects. As a non-profit organization, it continues to explore the interactive relationship between contemporary art and urban space through art exhibitions, public education and cross-disciplinary cooperation projects.
