About Power Station of Art
Shanghai Power Station of Art was established on October 1, 2012. It is the first public contemporary art museum in mainland China. At the same time, the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art is also the home of the Shanghai Biennale. It is located on the bank of the Huangpu River, the mother river of Shanghai, covering an area of 42,000 square meters, with an exhibition hall area of 15,000 square meters. The highest internal cantilever is 45 meters, and the 165-meter-high chimney is not only a city landmark of Shanghai but also a special exhibition space. The Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art building was renovated from the former Nanshi Power Plant. It not only witnesses Shanghai’s urban transformation from industry to the information age, but also bids farewell to the past of excessive exploitation of energy.
