About Shanghai Natural History Museum

Shanghai Museum of Natural History (Branch of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum) is located at No. 510 Beijing West Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai (inside Jing'an Sculpture Park), with a construction area of 45,257 square meters and an exhibition and education service area of 32,200 square meters. It is a comprehensive museum. On November 1, 1956, the Shanghai Municipal People's Committee approved the formation of the Shanghai Museum of Natural History Preparatory Committee consisting of 12 people including Jin Zhonghua. In August 1958, it moved into No. 260 Yan'an East Road (formerly the Huashang Gauze Exchange). In June 1988, it was placed under the jurisdiction of the Shanghai Academy of Sciences. In 2001, the Shanghai Museum of Natural History was abolished and merged into the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
