About Tianyue Academy
Tianyue Academy is located in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. It was founded in the 59th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1720). Its original location was Xiaotianyue Peak in the south of the county. In the 6th year of Tongzhi (1867), it was moved to the current campus of Pingjiang County No. 1 Middle School. The academy is named because its door faces Xiaotianyue Mountain. The main building is a brick-and-timber quadrangle, imitating the structure of Yuelu Academy, including lecture halls, dining rooms, libraries, etc. The front of the door is inlaid with a stone plaque of "Tianyue Academy" and gilt stone couplets of "The Classics of Heaven, Earth and Weft" and "Yue Zhi Yuan Ting", which are said to have been written by Li Ciqing. During the Guangxu period, it was changed to Pingjiang Primary School and later evolved into a county middle school.
