About Jinggang Ancient Town
Jinggang Ancient Town, located in the northwestern part of Wangcheng District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, is situated to the east of the Xiang River, facing Tongguan Town across the river, to the south along the Lao Weishui River, to the west adjacent to Gétang, and to the north bordering Qiaokou Town. It is a nationally designated historical and cultural town, as well as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and the only “China Historical and Cultural Famous Town” in the Changsha area. The ancient town derives its name from Li Jing’s garrison during the Tang Dynasty; it flourished during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, becoming one of the four major rice markets in Hunan and a major port for the distribution of Huai salt. From the late Qing Dynasty through the Republic of China, when commerce was at its peak, the town boasted 38 docks and more than 2,000 shops.
