About Beicangmen Silk Warehouse
Beicangmen Silk Warehouse is located at No. 37 Beicangmen, Chong'an District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China. Its place name comes from the north gate of Dongcang, which was built for water transportation during the Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty. Built in 1938, the warehouse is the largest silk industry warehouse on the ancient canal in Wuxi. It has an indoor area of 6,000 square meters and consists of two independent three-story buildings with a long-span brick and wood structure. The building was built by the Wang puppet government to control the silk trade activities in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and even the Yangtze River Delta. It was once converted into a granary by the Japanese invading troops. In 2004, Zheng Haohua, who had returned from studying abroad, discovered and initiated the protective transformation of the warehouse.
