About Tian Han's former residence
Tian Han's former residence is located in No. 9, Xiguan Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing, adjacent to Dongsi North Street in the east. This house was built by the Chi brothers in the 1920s and sold to the court in 1949. In 1953, the Chinese Dramatists Association purchased the house for Tian Han according to the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai. At that time, Tian Han and his wife An'e's family lived in the inner courtyard, and his secretary lived in the outer courtyard. Later, Tian Han brought his old mother from Hunan to live with him. In this small courtyard, he completed excellent Peking opera works such as "The Legend of White Snake" and "Xie Yaohuan" and the drama "Guan Hanqing". In the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, An'e accidentally fell and died suddenly while building an earthquake-resistant shed. Soon after, her mother also died.
