About Qinhuangdao Lao Longtou Scenic Area

The Lao Longtou Scenic Area in Qinhuangdao City is located 4 kilometers south of Shanhaiguan District, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, along the Bohai Sea. It is the only section of the Ming Great Wall that runs along the sea, and it belongs to the Qinhuangdao Shanhaiguan Scenic Area, a national 5A-level tourist attraction. The scenic area comprises 28 attractions, including the Sea-Entering Stone City, Chenghai Tower, Ninghai City, and the Sea God Temple. Among these, the Sea-Entering Stone City was constructed in the seventh year of the Wanli reign (1579) by Qi Jiguang, the Commander-in-Chief of the Jizhen Garrison during the Ming Dynasty, who dispatched Lieutenant General Wu Weizhong to carry out its construction. The structure was built using massive granite stones and the “silver ingot and iron tenon” technique; today, the longest stone strip still stands at 2.
