About Panmen
Panmen, also known as Panmen in ancient times, is located at No. 49 East Street, Gusu District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. In the sixth year of King Zhou Jing (514 BC), King Helv of Wu ordered Wu Zixu to build the capital of the Spring and Autumn Period of Wu. Panmen was one of the eight gates of the Wu capital. Because there was once a wooden dragon hanging on the door to show the deterrence of the Yue Kingdom, it was named because it was "half land and water, and curved along the way". The overall layout and architectural structure of Panmen basically maintain the old concept of the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. The water and land gates are staggered from north to south, and the general plane is in the shape of a ruler, facing 10 degrees east-south. Panmen is a relic built successively in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
