About Huqiu Mountain Scenic Area
The Huqiu Scenic Area is located at No. 8, within the gates of Huqiu Mountain in Gusu District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, 3.5 kilometers northwest of Suzhou’s ancient city. It sits at an elevation of 34.3 meters above sea level, covers an area of 72.8 hectares, and features a core scenic area spanning 15.97 hectares, boasting a history more than 2,500 years old. The mountainous terrain of Huqiu Mountain is composed of Jurassic volcanic rocks. Also known as Haiyong Mountain, during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Minister of Personnel Wang Xun and his younger brother, Minister of the Central Secretariat Wang Min, built villas on either side of Jianchi Lake; these residences later evolved into a temple, which was named Huqiu Temple. The temple buildings were constructed along the mountainside, with “the temple hidden within the mountain” being one of its most distinctive features.
