About Lingering Garden
Liyuan, formerly known as “Dongyuan” or “Hanbi Mountain Villa,” is located at No. 338 Liuyuan Road in Gusu District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It borders Liuyuan Road to the south, extends to Banbian Street to the north, adjoins the Suzhou City Passenger Transport Group Co., Ltd. to the east, and is bordered by Xiu Hua Lane to the west. Construction began in the 21st year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1593). Over time, the garden fell into disrepair and changed ownership numerous times. In 1953, the People’s Government of Suzhou decided to restore Liyuan, and it has been continuously renovated and improved since then. Liyuan is a large classical private garden in China, covering an area of 23,300 square meters.
