About Jianshan Temple
Jianshan Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Yangshuo County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It was built in the early Kaiyuan year of the Tang Dynasty (713). It is one of the earliest ancient temples in Guilin. It has been popular for more than 1,200 years through the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. It was named after the eminent monk Jianzhen of the Tang Dynasty who gave lectures and ordination here after his unsuccessful trip to Japan. The original temple was destroyed by a military disaster in 1916 and rebuilt into Jianshan Tower. In 1964, it was rebuilt into a double-story pavilion building covering an area of 137 square meters. It was approved for reconstruction in 1995, started construction in 1997, and was completed and consecrated in 2001. The name of the temple was inscribed by Zhao Puchu, president of the Buddhist Association of China.
