About Qixia Temple Relic Pagoda
The Qixia Temple Relic Pagoda is located in the east of Qixia Temple at the foothills of Qixia Mountain in Qixia District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. It is a Buddhist stone pagoda dating from the Five Dynasties period in China and is the largest relic stupa in China. The stupa of Qixia Temple has a compact overall structure and gorgeous carvings. The pagoda has eight corners and five eaves, and is 15 meters high. It is an important object for studying the architecture of the Southern Tang Dynasty. It is a masterpiece of Chinese pagoda art and is a rare dense-eaves pagoda in the south. The stupa of Qixia Temple was first built in the first year of Yongming in the Southern Qi Dynasty (483). The stupa was later restored to a five-story square wooden pagoda in the first year of Renshou (601) of the Sui Dynasty.
