About Lingxingmen
Lingxing Gate (also known as Wutou Gate and Lingxing Gate) is an archway-style structure in traditional Chinese ritual architecture. It is mostly located on the central axis of Confucian temples and altars. Its name originated from the worship of the Tiantian Star in the Han Dynasty. It has become a ritual symbol of respecting Confucius since the Song Dynasty. It means that Confucius can be compared with the Tianzhen Star, which is responsible for education, and embodies the cultural connotation of "respecting Confucius as respecting Heaven". The evolution of the shape of the Wutou Gate can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. It was finalized after the etiquette reforms of the Song and Ming Dynasties. It is mostly made of wood and stone, with three bays and four columns or three bays and six columns as the basic shape. Some are equipped with fence doors or connecting walls.
