About dongguan model school

Dongguan Model School is the school where Zhou Enlai attended when he was a boy. Its predecessor was the Fengtian Provincial Government Dongguan Model Second Class Primary School built in 1910. It was a model school for Northeastern new education opened under the background of "abolition of imperial examinations and development of schools" in the late Qing Dynasty. Zhou Enlai studied here from the autumn of 1910 to 1913. During this period, in a class at the end of 1911, when faced with a question from principal Wei Fuxi, the young Zhou Enlai answered "study for the rise of China." The old site of the school has been open to the public since March 4, 1978 as the Memorial Hall of Zhou Enlai’s Youth Study Site in Shenyang. It is now a cultural relic protection unit and a patriotic education demonstration base in Liaoning Province.
