About Huaiyuanmen

Huaiyuan Gate, commonly known as "Da Ximen", is one of the eight gates of Shenyang City in the Qing Dynasty. It is located at the west end of Shenyang Road in Fangcheng. It was first built in 1631. In April 1634, Huang Taiji issued an edict to name eight gates. The one to the west and south was named Huaiyuan Gate. The Huaiyuan Gate is a square city-style masonry structure with a tower built on top of the city gate and a coupon gate in the middle below, with a plaque of "Huaiyuan Gate" embedded on it, with Chinese writing on the inside and Manchu on the outside. In the past, it was the gateway to the inner city, the only place for officials of the Qing Dynasty to enter and exit, an important military defense facility, and an important symbol of the old city wall of Shenyang. Huaiyuan Gate was once a place of execution outside its gate in history.
