About Nanxunmen

Nanxunmen is the main entrance to the south wall of the outer city of Tokyo in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is located in Kaifeng City, Henan Province today. It was first built in the third year of Xiande of the Later Zhou Dynasty (956) and was originally named Zhumingmen. It was renamed Nanxunmen in the fourth year of Taiping and Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (979). The city gate, the outer city moat and the urn city form a defense system. The urn city is 130 meters from east to west and 80 meters from north to south. It has a "double straight gate" structure and matches the scale of the outer city. Nanxun Gate, Xuande Gate in the imperial city, Suzaku Gate in the inner city and Zhouqiao together form the north-south central axis of Tokyo City. The imperial street extends through this gate to Yujin Garden, forming a "building a neutral pole" capital planning pattern.
