About Shantang Jie
Shantang Street (English name: Shantang Street), also known as "Qili Shantang", Shantang historical and cultural district is located outside Changmen in the northwest corner of Suzhou ancient city, starting from Duseng Bridge in the east and ending at Huqiu Mountain in the west. The total length is about 3,700 meters, the width is about 30-100 meters, and the construction and control area is about 30.94 hectares. Shantang Street was built in 825 when Bai Juyi was the governor of Suzhou. For this reason, Shantang Street is also called "Baigong Causeway". Later, in the Song Dynasty, Shantang Street was destroyed when the Jin Dynasty invaded Suzhou. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was destroyed again. It was not until the Ming Dynasty that Shantang Street received large-scale renovations. In 1860, Shantang Street was burned down by the Qing army.
