About Ruins of the ancient city of Xiongyasuo
The ruins of the ancient city of Xiongyasuo are the ruins of a coastal defense castle in the Ming Dynasty. It is located on the bank of the T-shaped Bay in the north of Tianheng Town (formerly Fengcheng Town) in Jimo District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province. It is named after the majestic ocher-colored cliffs on Baima Island in the northeast. The city was built in the 35th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1402) to defend against Japanese pirates and was affiliated with Aoshan Guard. The ancient city is square in shape with a circumference of about 2 kilometers. It originally had four gates. The existing south gate "Feng'en Gate" and the west gate "Weizhen Gate" are well preserved. The site is one of the most complete Ming Dynasty coastal defense cities in Shandong Province.
