About Youjuan
"Youju'an" is a five-character poem composed by Hongli, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. It was written in the Ding Chou year of Qianlong (1757) and comes from Volume 71 of "The Second Collection of Imperial Poems". Youju Nunnery is one of the "Ten Scenes of Qixia" in Qixia Mountain, Nanjing. Emperor Qianlong wrote poems for this scene many times during his southern tour. The poem outlines the quiet mountain scenery through images such as cold springs, meandering streams, and dense forests, and expresses the remembrance of the secluded residence of the sages in the Southern Dynasties through lines such as "There are no towers in the Southern Dynasties." Qianlong also wrote other poems such as "Retitle You Ju'an". These poems have been engraved on rocks or included in related picture albums.
