About Jingting
A well pavilion is a building built to protect a well. There are two well pavilions built in the Imperial Garden of the Forbidden City in Beijing, facing each other from east to west. Its function is to prevent the well water from being polluted and to provide a water source for watering the flowers and trees in the imperial garden. The well pavilion is square in plan and 1.94 meters wide. It has four vermilion pillars and a "beam-bearing" structure. The top is a dome with a hole for receiving light and digging the well. The pavilion is covered with yellow glazed tiles and decorated with Soviet-style paintings. There are still remains of a pulley used for drawing water in the West Well Pavilion inside the pavilion. The structure of this well pavilion is relatively typical.
