About Baopingkou
Baopingkou refers to the mouth of the river that functions as a "control gate", which can automatically control the water inflow of the Inner River. It is an opening cut on the long ridge of Jianshan Mountain (now known as Guankou Mountain and Yulei Mountain) extending to the Minjiang River. It was a throat artificially chiseled by Li Bing, the prefect of Shu County during the Warring States Period, using the "fire and water stimulation" method to control the inflow of water from the Inner River. It was named because it resembles the mouth of a bottle. Baopingkou, also known as Jinguankou in ancient times, has a base width of 17 meters, the mouth of the gorge is 19 meters wide in dry season and 23 meters wide in flood season. The hill left on the right side of Baopingkou is named Lidui because it is separated from the mountain.
