About Zhuoying Pool

Zhuoying Pond is located on the bank of Guoqing Pond at the foot of Gucheng Mountain in Xiazhuang Village, Huangshi Town, Putian City, Fujian Province. It is a pond in front of the Hengtang Villa excavated by Lin Hui in the Southern Song Dynasty during the Shaoxing Period (1131-1162). It was originally named "Guqing Pond". In 1161, Zhu Xi followed Lin Guangchao on a study tour here. He renamed it "Zhuoying Pond" and inscribed "Zhuoying Pavilion" and "Skylight and Cloud Shadow" on the plaques. It was verified as the prototype of the "Half Acre Square Pond" in "Two Poems on Viewing Books". Zhu Xi's inscriptions and the former site of Zhuoying Pavilion are still extant at the site. The "Xu Puyang Bishi" of the Qing Dynasty and the "Putian County Chronicle" of the Republic of China all record that their remains remain.
