About Yongning Gate (Yongningmen)
Yongning Gate is the south gate of the Xi'an City Wall. It is located in Beilin District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It was built in the second year of Kaihuang's reign (582) in the Sui Dynasty. Yongning Gate was originally the Anshang Gate to the south and east of Chang'an Imperial City in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. From the seventh to the eleventh year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1374-1378), the city wall of Xi'an was expanded and built, and the Yongning Gate was used as the South Gate. There is a brick arched doorway under the Yongning Gate, which is divided into two sections, the inner and outer sections, with the gate as the boundary. There is a city gate tower above the gate, and there are Wengcheng arrow towers and Yuecheng gate floors outside the gate to guard it. Yongning Gate is the oldest and longest-used gate in the Xi'an City Wall.
