About Zhide Temple
Zhide Temple, also known as Taibo Hall, is located in the northwest corner of Yingshan Lake in Xihui Park, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It was the original site of Yugong Valley in the Ming Dynasty. It was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and is now a cultural relic protection unit in Wuxi City. The temple was first built in the 30th year of Qianlong's reign (1765). Wu Yue, the magistrate of Wuxi, and Wu Peiyuan, the 101st descendant of Taibo, purchased the former site of Lianshi Pavilion in Zoyuan and donated funds for the construction. It was originally a place for the Wu clan in Wuxi to worship Taibo, the ancestor of Jiangnan. Wuxi Huishan Ancestral Hall Group was included in China's World Cultural Heritage Tentative List in 2012. The main building, Taibo Hall, faces south. There is a plaque reading "Supreme Virtue" hanging in the hall.
