About old man stone
The Old Man of Stone is a sea stack landscape located in the waters of the Old Man of Stone National Tourist Resort in Laoshan District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province. About 100 meters away from the shore stands a 17-meter-high stone pillar that looks like a sitting old man. This landscape was formed by the geological process of long-term wave erosion on the bedrock coast. It was eroded into independent sea stacks about 8,000-10,000 years ago. The lithology is fragmented altered granite. It was first discovered in the 31st year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1692). There is a local legend that it was originally a petrified fisherman watching over his daughter. After weathering cracks were observed in 2009, the Laoshan District government allocated 300,000 yuan in special funds in 2011 to complete three-dimensional measurements and establish a stone database. At about 4:10 a.m.
