About Star Observation Deck
The observatory is located in Gaocheng Town, 13 kilometers southeast of Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It was built by astronomer Guo Shoujing from the 13th year of Zhiyuan (1276) to the 17th year of Zhiyuan (1280). The star observatory consists of two parts: the platform body surrounded by spiral steps and the stone pavilion tiled from the groove of the Taipei wall to the north. The platform body is in the shape of a square covered bucket, and the four walls are made of water-milled bricks. The Shigui on the north side of the star observatory is used to measure the length of the sun's shadow, so it is also called the "Sky Ruler". The observatory is the product of the interaction of science, religion and politics. Because of its unique design, it has become a historical witness to the highly developed astronomy of the Yuan Dynasty.
