About Pigeon Cave Ruins
The Pigeon Cave ruins are located on the south side of Xitang Mountain in Wafang Village, Shuiquan Township, Kalaqin Left-wing Mongolian Autonomous County, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. Two levels of cliffs more than 50 meters high are located beside the Daling River. The Pigeon Cave site is a natural cave on the second level of the cliff. It was named because of the groups of pigeons that lived in the cave. The Pigeon Cave site is a Paleolithic cultural site with a rock structure. The cave entrance faces east and is 1.8 meters wide. The cave is 15 meters long and 18 meters high. There is an "inner room" of 20 square meters in the innermost part. The cave is spacious and bright, and is protected from wind and rain. In 1973 and 1975, archaeologists excavated Pigeon Cave and unearthed a number of stone products, animal fossils, and traces of fire.
