About Tangshan Ancient Ape Man Cave
Tangshan Homo Cave is located on the northern slope of Tangshan Street, Tangshan Street, Jiangning District, Nanjing City. It is a cave developed in the Ordovician limestone. It is also called "Gourd Cave" because it looks like a gourd. The cave was discovered during quarrying on March 13, 1993. The skull fossil of Nanjing Homo erectus and a large number of mammal fossils were found in the cave. This discovery advances human history in the Nanjing area by hundreds of thousands of years and confirms that the Yangtze River Basin is one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation. After 1995, the cave was opened to tourists and is now part of the Nanjing Homo erectus Fossil Site Park. There are rich stalactite landscapes in the cave.
