About stone drum
Shi-ku (Stone Drum), also known as Chencang Stone Drum, is one of the nine national treasures in China. It is a cultural relic of the Qin Dynasty in the pre-Qin period and was praised by Kang Youwei as "the first ancient relic in China". It was discovered in 627 in Chencang Mountain in Chencang, Fengxiang Prefecture (now Shigu Mountain, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province). The stone drum is made up of 10 granite stones, with different heights and sizes (the highest one is about 95 cm, the lowest one is about 60 cm). They are shaped like a drum, with a thin top and a thick bottom and a slightly rounded top (actually in the shape of a stone). Each one weighs about one ton. The surface of the ten stone drums are all engraved with "Shiguwen" (large seal script). Because the inscriptions mostly talk about fishing and hunting, they are also called "Hunting Jie".
