About saddle stone
Saddle pebble was named by Chinese geologist Li Siguang. The gravel is purple-red in color and bent at a 90° angle, forming a unique saddle-like shape. Li Siguang valued its research value and couldn't put it down for this small stone. Based on specimens collected by student Zhang Geng in Yanshan Village, Liangfeng, Guilin, Guangxi, Li Siguang proposed that the gravel is a product of glacial geological activity, and its bending characteristics prove that the rock has plasticity under specific conditions. In 1941, Li Siguang displayed the specimen at Guangxi University. During the period, the specimen was stolen and later recovered in a banyan tree cave on the campus. Since then, Li Siguang often carried this piece of gravel with him and explained its scientific significance to others.
