About Yuan Gemstone
Yuan gemstone, also known as calender stone, kick cloth stone and flying goose stone, is named after its shape similar to ingot. It is a tool used in ancient dyeing workshops to grind and finish dyed cloth products. It consists of two upper and lower stone components. The upper one is an ingot-shaped stone piece, and the lower one is a rectangular cushion stone with grooves. The small one is five to six hundred kilograms, and the heavy one is more than a thousand kilograms. The cloth is made tight, thin and shiny by manual stepping. In ancient times, ingot gemstones were called 硟. This process appeared before the Han Dynasty. It was initially only used for silk and linen fabrics, and later expanded to cotton fabrics. It was still used in the 1940s.
