About Baiyun Temple
Baiyun Nunnery is located on the west side of the Leifeng Pagoda ruins on Xizhao Mountain in West Lake, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It was originally the famous garden "Cui Fang Garden" in the Southern Song Dynasty. After reconstruction in the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed "Ciyun Nunnery" during the Yongzheng period. Emperor Qianlong gave it the name "Yiyuan" during his southern tour, and later changed its name to Baiyun Nunnery. In the 23rd year of Guangxu's reign (1897), Ding Bing (also known as Songsheng), a bibliophile from Hangzhou, presided over the reconstruction and added the Yuexia Old Man's Shrine, with statues and poems for fortune-telling, which became the cultural carrier of West Lake's wedding customs. In the late Qing Dynasty, Baiyun Nunnery became a secret stronghold of the Zhejiang revolutionaries. Sun Yat-sen, Xu Xilin, Qiu Jin and others planned uprisings here.
