About Tiefo Temple
Tiefo Temple may refer to two historical buildings, one in Anqing, Anhui, and the other in Laoshan, Shandong. The construction of Tiefo Nunnery in Anqing can be traced back to the late Yuan Dynasty. It was built by immigrants from Shanxi to express gratitude to the gods for blessings. It was renovated in the ninth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1636) and was officially named. In the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed the Iron Buddha Temple. During the Republic of China, it still existed and belonged to the Linji Sect. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the building was destroyed, and only the 2-meter-high Tieweituo statue remained, which is now hidden in a cultural relics institution. Laoshan Tiefo Nunnery is located in the West Tiefo Cave of Qingshan Village. It was founded during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522~1566).
