About Big Wild Goose Pagoda
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the Da Ci'en Temple in Jinchangfang, Chang'an City (now Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province) in the Tang Dynasty. It is also known as the "Ci'en Temple Pagoda". In the third year of Yonghui of the Tang Dynasty (652), Xuanzang presided over the construction of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to preserve the Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back to Chang'an from Tianzhu via the Silk Road. It initially had five floors. During the Chang'an reign of Emperor Wu Zetian, the pagoda was changed to seven floors. Since then, the seven-story appearance has been maintained to this day. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is 64.517 meters high and the bottom floor is 25.5 meters long. There are stone gates on all sides of the ground floor.
