About Yuelu Academy

Yuelu Academy is one of the four most famous academies in Chinese history. It is located at the foot of Yuelu Mountain on the west bank of the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, Hunan, a famous historical and cultural city in China. It is one of the oldest universities in the world. In the ninth year of Kaibao in the Northern Song Dynasty (976), Zhu Dong, the prefect of Tanzhou, officially founded Yuelu Academy on the basis of the school run by monks and donations from the government. In the eighth year of Xiangfu's reign in the Northern Song Dynasty (1015), Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty summoned Changzhou Shi of Yuelu Mountain and gave him the four-character "Yuelu Academy" written on his forehead.
