About Garden of Pleasance
Yiyuan is located at No. 1265 Renmin Road, Gusu District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, covering an area of 6,270 square meters. It was built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty and was presided over by Gu Cheng, Gu Wenbinzi of Ningshao Daotai, Zhejiang Province. Yiyuan is divided into east and west parts. The west part of the garden used to be an ancestral hall, and the south part of the garden can be connected to residences. Because the garden was built late, it absorbed the advantages of other gardens, such as the complex corridor, Yuanyang Hall, rockery, stone boat, etc. In 1953, the descendants of the Gu family dedicated the garden to the country, and it was taken over by the Suzhou Garden Renovation Committee and renovated and opened to the public. Due to the widening of Renmin Road in 1972 and 1995, the eastern entrance of Yiyuan was retracted inward.
