About Xumen

Xumen, also known as Guxumen, is located in the south of Wannian Bridge in Gusu District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is one of the ancient city gates built when the Wu Kingdom built its capital in the Spring and Autumn Period. The main body of the existing Lumen was rebuilt in the 11th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1351). It was renovated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was listed as a cultural relics protection unit in Suzhou City in 1982 and upgraded to a cultural relics protection unit in Jiangsu Province in 2006. The city gate runs east-west. The arch is 4.65 meters high, 3.3 meters wide and 11.45 meters deep. After the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the water gate was abolished and only the land gate remained. The ruins and part of the city wall still exist.
