About Xingyuan

Apricot Garden is an early garden located in the Changjia Manor in Yuci District, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. It was built by the Chang family when the North Ancestral Hall was built in the fifth year of Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1879). The name "Xingyuan" combines three cultural connotations: respecting the tradition of Confucius's apricot altar lectures, using the image of "Ji Di" of apricot flowers to convey the vision of the imperial examination, and inheriting the medical ethics allusion of Dong Feng's "Xinglin" in the Eastern Han Dynasty. The apricot altar in the garden enshrines a statue of Confucius to highlight Confucian beliefs. The garden layout is mainly composed of east and west corridors, with couplets and ink ink by famous writers from the Qing Dynasty, such as Liu Yong and Lin Zexu.
