About Salar de Uyuni

Salar de Uyuni is located in the Andes Mountains in the southwest of Potosi Province, Bolivia, with a total area of approximately 10,582 square kilometers and an altitude of 3,656 meters. It is the world's largest salt-covered wilderness. This landform was formed by the drying up of the ancient Minqin Lake about 40,000 years ago. The surface is covered with salt crusts several meters thick. In the dry season, the salt crusts present a unique hexagonal network structure. When water accumulates during the rainy season (December to January), the salt marsh forms a giant mirror reflection landscape, known as the "Mirror of the Sky", and the accumulated water is released through the Lipes River. To the north, it faces the Coipasa Salt Flats across mountains and rivers.
