About Jiezhu Temple
Jiezhu Temple is located on West Street at the south foot of Jishan, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. It was originally the former residence of Wang Xizhi, a calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Wang Xizhi built the temple in his house. It was originally named Chang'an Temple. In the sixth year of Tang Dazhong (852), it was renamed "Jiezhu", which means the Buddhist precepts are as clean as pearls. It is a municipal cultural relic protection unit. Most of the existing buildings were rebuilt in 1924 and restored and opened to the public in 1983. There is an ink pond in front of the temple and a Wang Xizhi exhibition room inside the temple. The temple is named after Wang Xizhi, who lost his pearl and was suspected of being a monk: he lost his beloved pearl and mistakenly suspected that a good monk had stolen it, which led to his unjust death.
