About John Rabe and International Safety Zone Memorial Hall
The Rabe and International Safe Zone Memorial Hall is located at the southeast corner of the Nanjing University Drum Tower Campus at No. 1 Xiaofenqiao, Guangzhou Road, Nanjing. It is also known as the Nanjing University Rabe and International Safe Zone Memorial Hall. It was formerly the residence of John Rabe, the representative of the German Siemens AG in Nanjing. It is designed to commemorate the humanitarian spirit and selfless love he displayed during the Nanjing Massacre. It has a total construction area of 1,628 square meters. It is now a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national anti-Japanese war memorial facility and a member of the site. The building served as one of the 25 refugee shelters in the Nanjing Safety Zone in 1937, sheltering more than 600 Chinese refugees. Rabe completed "Rabe's Diary" here, which recorded the atrocities committed by the Japanese army.
