About Xiamen Underwater World
Xiamen Underwater World is located at No. 2 Longtou Road, Gulangyu Island, Siming District, Xiamen City. It was built by overseas Chinese in Singapore and Gulangyu Scenic Area Construction and Development Company, and was officially opened in January 1998. The scenic area covers an area of 1.75 hectares, with a total construction area of over 10,000 square meters. It has five major exhibition areas: an aquarium, a penguin freshwater fish museum, a sperm whale specimen museum, an undersea tunnel and a marine animal performance hall. It displays more than 350 kinds of nearly 10,000 aquatic animals, including giant groupers, sharks, mullet fish and other representative species. Core exhibition items include an 80-meter undersea tunnel, a 7-meter-high cylindrical "Dinghai Shenzhen" exhibition tank, and an 18.6-meter-long complete sperm whale specimen discovered in Xiamen waters in 2000.
