About Sunlight Rock
Sunlight Rock is located in the south-central part of Gulangyu Island, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, with an altitude of 92.7 meters. It consists of two huge rocks leaning against each other to form the top of Longtou Mountain. It was named after Zheng Chenggong's allusion to Japan's Sunlight Mountain and the geographical feature of first welcoming the sunrise. The rock mass contains stone carvings such as "Gulang Cave" by Ding Yizhong in the Ming Dynasty and "No. 1 in Lujiang" by Lin Cheng in the Qing Dynasty. The remains on the top of the mountain include Zheng Chenggong's Longtou Shanzhai Gate, Shuicaotai ruins and the inscription "The mountain is better when the legs are exhausted" by He Shaoji in the Qing Dynasty. The Riguangyan Temple was rebuilt during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, with a huge stone as the top to form a "tiled" natural stone cave building.
