About Hundred Steps in Cloud

The Hundred-step Ladder is located in the Yuping Scenic Area in Huangshan, Anhui Province, on the cliff at the northwest foot of Lianhua Peak. On the hundred-step ladder, there are two huge stones not far from the "Lotus Stem". One is shaped like a turtle and the other is shaped like a snake. The two stones are parallel. More than a hundred steps of steep orange paths carved into the stone wall go down between the two rocks. Viewed from the Aoyu Cave on the opposite side, the path leads down to the abyss, like a long ladder leaning against the cliff. It is often shrouded in clouds and mist and is very dangerous. This is the "Hundred-step Ladder". The two stones of turtle and snake are just at the entrance of the ladder, like guards, so it is called "turtle and snake guarding the ladder".
