About Shentang Bay
Shentang Bay is located on the Shijiayuan Tourist Line of Tianzishan Nature Reserve in Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. It is a natural semicircular sinkhole covering an area of more than 10 hectares. The scenic spot is a semicircular depression surrounded by cliffs on three sides. There are stepped landforms and virgin forests at the bottom, and it is filled with fog all year round. The "Cili County Chronicle" of the Ming Dynasty records that its original name was "Shengtang Village". According to folklore, it is the place where Emperor Xiang Wang (or King Xiang) was defeated and died by jumping off a cliff in the late Southern Song Dynasty. Near the bay, you can hear sounds similar to battlefield fighting, gongs and drums, and people shouting and horses neighing. It is called "Yin soldiers borrowing the road" among the people.
