About Sunrise Terrace

Chu Terrace is located on the top of Geling Mountain in Xihu District, Hangzhou. It was listed as the main landscape of the "Geling Chaotun" among the ten scenic spots in Qiantang during the Yuan Dynasty. The platform was originally the site of the alchemy of Ge Hong, a Taoist priest in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The existing building is an ocher red stone platform base that was rebuilt in 1959. The platform base and pavilions were rebuilt in 1980. The platform is engraved with the three characters "Chu Balcony" and the inscription written in Zhu Le's third hand. As the best place to watch the sunrise in Hangzhou, you can observe the astronomical spectacle of "the sun and the moon shine together" every first day of the tenth lunar month. When the morning light first appears, all the mountains are dark but the platform is bright.
