About LingYin Temple

Lingyin Temple, also known as Yunlin Temple, is located to the west of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It sits with its back against Beigao Peak and facing Feilai Peak, making it one of Hangzhou’s earliest renowned monasteries. Construction began in the first year of Xianhe during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (326 AD), covering an area of approximately 87,000 square meters. The current abbot is Master Guangquan. The founding patriarch of Lingyin Temple was the Western Indian monk Master Huirui, who was granted land by Emperor Wu of the Southern Dynasties Liang and undertook extensive expansion efforts. During the Five Dynasties, King Qian Liu of the Wu and Yue dynasties ordered Master Yongming Yanshou to revive and develop the temple, and bestowed upon it the new name “Lingyin New Temple.
